On 1st January 2014 a German with a passion for Ireland became a German living in Ireland. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I guess it was never a question whether to emigrate to Ireland, but when was I going to have the courage to do it. It took me about five years after my first stay in Ireland to leave my life in Hamburg behind and take the leap into the (almost) unknown.

Whilst living in Ireland is my dream come true, it also came with an eye-opening reality. Emigrating has nothing to do with spending a vacation in your favourite country. For me so many things fell into place over the past decade in Ireland. However I do see Ireland through a different lens now. One that looks beyond the magnificent green scenery dotted with cute little sheep everywhere. That reveals more than romantic cottages and open fires with the rain drumming against the windows.

Ireland is my home now with all the ups and downs it entails. With my Irish husband and children I have settled in one of the prettiest parts of the country. I couldn’t be happier. Follow my journey as a German in Ireland on my Blog!
