About me

About me

For me emigrating to Ireland was not a matter of weighing up pros and cons. I just followed my gut and deepest desire. I made my dream come true when I left Germany on 1st January 2014 to start over in Ireland.

Whilst I am living my dream, I don't live in a dream world. Emigrating is nothing like going on vacation to your favourite country. Once reality sinks in and you see beyond the maginificent green scenery and cute little sheep, the tough bit starts. I don't have any regrets whatsoever and consider Ireland my forever home.

Of course I didn't know at the time that everything was going to work out so well for me. That I would meet my husband after just 6 months in the country. That we would be engaged to be married within a year and find our dream house on the East coast of Ireland shortly after. I never thought I would be a stay-at-home mom and become a baptised Catholic.

My name is Sylvia and I fell in love with Ireland during a placement as a student in 2008. Following this, my work in the Ireland travel trade always made me feel close to where I wanted to be; until I finally had the courage to follow through with my emigration plans. Since I arrived to Ireland over 10 years ago, everything has fallen into place. I am convinced it was meant to be.

I started my Ireland Blog to share my experiences as German expat in Ireland. Many stories about my day-to-day life as a mother of three and other Ireland-related projects followed.

I like to consider green is colourful as a platform to exchange with like-minded people. People who share the same interest in Ireland or would like to learn more about this beautiful spot in the Atlantic Ocean.
So whether you think about emigrating to Ireland yourself or are just curious what it is like, you are more than welcome to browse through my virtual desk and leave me a comment!
